Book IV: Target Earth

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Soviet Superwoman was prepared to die, laying on the surface of the moon, watching as her planet was ripped apart by the sheer firepower the alien invaders had brought to bear upon it. A choked gasp escaped her lungs. She looked away, unable to bear the sight of her failure and unable to watch as everything she knew and loved was wiped away in a heartbeat. As she looked out over the rocky, grey expense of the lunar landscape something caught her eyes. She narrowed her gaze, her chest still rising and falling despite her wishing that death would take her away from all this pain. It looked metallic and somewhat circular...definitely something that did not belong here. Curious, there shouldn't have been anything here. This was the location of the moon-base Ultrawoman had found and attempted to use the terraforming weapon she found therein to conquer the Earth so many years ago. Serenity had removed all traces of it completely, including from the minds of almost everyone involved with the exceptions of Olga and her wife. Even Ultrawoman had completely forgotten about this location and never returned to this barren place. As the Soviet super-soldier continued to focus on the object it began to seem familiar to her...something she had...

Olga's eyes widened. A flood of memories long, long forgotten flooded back into her mind. It felt like waking up suddenly from a dream. She knew everything again, everything that the rogue faction of Chtranqua had told her so many years ago. This place had once been a Chtranqua settlement, a base of operations with which they had watched the Earth and waited. Even though they had been in her own dimension when she had been told this they must have also had a settlement here as well, mirroring events there. Something had happened to them though. Something that had caused them to abandon their base and with it their terraforming cannon, never firing in upon the planet so close to them...the same cannon Ultrawoman had found and made her own. A cannon that the Chtranqua had told her was capable of penetrating the shields of the Home Ship and destroying it completely if needed to save her world and countless others. Sadly, the cannon and the entire base were gone...just like the Earth.

Grunting, the Soviet Superwoman pushed herself back up to her feet. Her legs were wobbly and her breathing was labored. A quick glance at her gauge told her there wasn't much oxygen available to her. Making her way over to the object as quickly as she could, Olga hoped it was the other device that the aliens had told her about. Upon reaching it, she knelt down and wiped away a layer of rock and dust to reveal a strange technological device made of the same metals that the Chtranqua themselves used. Olga's eyes darted all over it, recognizing it and at the same time wondering how it had managed to evade Serenity's complete erasure of events. Olga's head raised up to look out over the stars towards the hulking Home Ship as it hovered overhead amid the debris of her once beautiful, wonderful planet. Perhaps Serenity had foreseen even this one day and left her the means to avenge her world in the little time she had available to her. The device was a life-boat portal. An emergency device used by the operatives at the base to instantly open a portal back to the Home Ship. According to the rogue aliens, it was the only other way to penetrate the shields of the mighty vessel. They had even instructed her in the two step process to activate the life-boat...if it was still operational. Olga held her breath and depressed the first button with a shaking finger.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Chtranqua guards heard the sound of the portal generator activating and curiously, turned to see what could have possibly activated it. The head of the first alien was sheared off in a black-green explosion as red lasers tore it from his body. The other Chtranqua had enough time to make a high-pitched sound as the same thing happened to him. Olga Yezhov, the Soviet Superwoman stepped out of the portal chamber, her costume and cape still in tatters and her eyes glowing with a crimson light. She figured she had about ten or so minutes of oxygen left...more than enough time to kill everyone aboard and destroy the Home Ship from within. Earth would have its revenge, she swore it on the lives of all the friends and loved ones she had lost only a few moments ago. She would have revenge for her home dimension as well. A squad was approaching, drawn by the noise. The aliens carried their energy rifles and wore their black obsidian armor. Using a burst of her super-speed, Olga ripped through their ranks, tearing limbs from their bodies and punching through them with her incredible strength. Sixteen or so of them were lifeless in piles of gore all around her before a pin would have landed. Olga felt strangely no pleasure in it, much like she had at Sajmište concentration camp what seemed like a lifetime ago.

She moved quickly and killed them, like cutting down wheat with a thresher. All of them. They could not escape. Some of them she killed right away with a blast from my lasers or a well-placed fist. Others she let run. They would run until whatever they called a heart burst in their chests and she would catch up with them, ripping them apart. Not a single Chtranqua would escape her wrath as she moved from deck to deck.

"Please, stop!"

The Soviet amazon whipped around and found herself almost face to face with one of the aliens holding up his hands. He was dressed in robes and adorned with what appeared to be silver, though she could not swear that was what the substance was. She hesitated at the sound of her native tongue, her eyes still blazing.

"Who are you? How do you know who I am?" she snarled.

"I don't know you, but it is obvious that you have found our life-boat somehow and utilized it to come aboard and that you are perhaps the last survivor of your kind. I gathered your nationality..."

The alien was saying other things. Olga's first instinct was to throw him down and crush his throat to a pulp under her boot...but his garb, his attitude. All of memories had come rushing back like the tide on a beach. Perhaps he was a member of the rogue aliens, like the ones back in her dimension. It caused her to hesitate. If he truly was a pacifist member of the Chtranqua then she had no desire to murder him, despite everything that had happened. He and his people had tried to help her and somehow she had forgotten everything. It was her fault that Earth was gone, not theirs.

"How did you know about our technology?" was the last thing she had heard him say.

"I learned of it...from others of your faction from my own dimension...but It did not save my world! It was help that came too late!" Olga cried at him, her eyes finally returning to their sapphire color and filling with tears. Her entire body shook, spattered with thick green blood so great was her rage and despair. The alien's own eyes were wet with tears.

The Chtranqua studied her for a moment, obviously empathic to her pain and incredible sorrow. "You know who we are...what our goals are. We...they told you how to use that life-boat to disable the Home-Ship when it arrived?"

Olga nodded, her eyes looking at the floor. As the alien stared at her, his mind raced with possibilities.

" I am truly sorry...but there is a perhaps a way to stop all of this from occurring now that you are here..."

"SEND ME BACK! Send me back in time please!" Olga pleaded with the stranger. "You must have that technology! Open another portal..."

The alien was already shaking his head. "I cannot. We do not have that ability in the time you have left, or the proper, calibrated equipment...but we do have the ability to send a single transmission back along your own Delta waves."

"Explain." Olga barked at him.

"I will put this device on you," he began gesturing to a thin, metallic headband he produced from his robes, "and with it we can send all of these memories back to you as you sleep. When you awaken, you will remember everything with perfect clarity."

"From when?" Olga asked in a calmer voice, taking a deep breath.

The Chtranqua shook his head. "Unknown without the proper monitoring equipment. It could be years ago, it could be weeks ago. I cannot give you a proper answer but it will be in time to find the life-boat and save your world, and others. All I ask is that you remember that not all of us are monsters or conquerors. Some of us just want to live somewhere in peace."

Olga nodded. The alien moved over to her quickly and as she bent down, he placed the headband down around her raven-colored hair and pressed a series of tiny buttons with his spider-like fingers. As she moved to stand back up, her legs suddenly felt like they were made of jelly and gave out from under her. The Chtranqua caught her heavy frame as best he could, supporting her as she laid down on the cold, metal floor. A quick glance told him that her oxygen had run out a few minutes ago.

"Almost done and with it this timeline." he said, attempting what appeared to be a smile.

The sound of a blaster discharging suddenly filled the room and Olga found herself splattered in gore. The alien slumped over onto his side, a gaping hole directly in the middle of his chest, as another squadron of Chtranqua soldiers forced their way into the room. All of her strength was slipping away with her life.

The last thing she saw was one of the soldiers bending down to retrieve the headband.
